Card lounge etiquette at The Copper Chance

Our in-person poker evenings are built on warm hospitality, gentle card-table manners and relaxed, offline company. This guide keeps the night flowing smoothly for every guest.

Poker at The Copper Chance is strictly entertainment-only. Table chips are decorative props, never cash or financial instruments.

Clay-table courtesy and relaxed play

These gentle guidelines keep our restaurant, lounge and card tables feeling easy-going, inclusive and comfortably Australian all night long.

Card Table Courtesy

The heart of The Copper Chance is sociable, in-person poker. When you arrive at your table, please greet your tablemates, introduce yourself and offer a friendly nod at the start of each session. A quick hello and a relaxed smile go a long way in setting the tone for the evening.

Take a moment to settle in before the first hand is dealt, make space for others’ belongings and keep the centre of the table clear for cards and props. Respectful camaraderie is our baseline: no raised voices, no pressure and no behaviour that could make another guest feel unwelcome.

Mindful Play, No Stakes

Our poker games are strictly entertainment-only; table chips are for fun, not winnings. They are decorative, non-financial props designed to bring texture to the table, never to stand in for cash or anything of financial value.

Please take turns dealing where appropriate, play with intention and avoid treating the evening like a competition. There are no buy-ins, no betting, no prizes and no financial upside or downside to any hand. Stay present, keep the pace comfortable and join in the spirit of relaxed, offline social play.

Dining & Cards: The Perfect Pair

Food and cards mix beautifully at The Copper Chance. To keep everything feeling fresh and comfortable, please handle cards and clay-style chips with clean, dry hands, especially between courses or shared plates.

Let your hosts know if you’re stepping away for food so we can pause or reshuffle as needed. Enjoy dining table service mid-game, but be mindful of neighbouring hands, plates and glassware when you reach across the table. Our team will happily adjust service so no one feels rushed between bites and friendly hands of poker.

Device Courtesy

We invite guests to lean into face-to-face moments. Please silence your phone on arrival and keep calls outside the lounge or restaurant floor. If you’re expecting something time-sensitive, a quick word with your host helps us manage any brief interruptions with care.

You’re welcome to snap a quick photo of your group or our clay-style tables, but we ask that screens stay tucked away during play. Scrolling, messaging or extended recording at the table can break the flow for others, so save the catch-ups for the bar or a cosy corner once hands are finished.

Table Talk & Good Spirits

Light banter, shared stories and the odd dad joke are all part of the Copper Chance rhythm. Between hands, feel free to chat about the week, the menu or your favourite card-night traditions.

While cards are live, please steer clear of coaching, over-explaining or dissecting hands in a way that might overwhelm others. We also ask that you avoid any comments or topics likely to make fellow guests uncomfortable. Cheer on clever plays, congratulate thoughtful decisions and let everyone enjoy the night at their own pace.

Hosts & House Rules

Our hosts guide each poker night, help with game rules and make sure every table is enjoying themselves. They’re here to support newcomers as well as seasoned players who simply want a relaxed, social setting.

Please check the house rules before play begins and ask if you’re ever unsure about how a hand is run or how to join in. We’re always happy to reset the pace, clarify a rule or suggest a more relaxed format for mixed-experience groups.

Seasonal Atmosphere

We design the restaurant and lounge to ebb and flow with the seasons—warm copper tones in winter, lighter clay textures as the evenings stretch out. Dress for comfort: smart casual sits beautifully in the room, whether you’re heading in from the office or starting your night here.

On themed nights, feel free to add a splash of copper, deep violet or a favourite lucky token, so long as it’s strictly non-financial and doesn’t interfere with play. Think a favourite scarf, a well-loved deck box or a small memento rather than anything that could be mistaken for stakes.

Private Groups, Shared Spaces

The Copper Chance is designed for both intimate catch-ups and larger celebrations. When you’ve booked a private table or lounge zone, you’re welcome to settle into your own rhythm without needing to mingle.

Out of respect for other guests, please avoid wandering between sessions or joining another table’s game unless you’ve been warmly invited. Save your best banter and end-of-night recaps for your own group until the evening winds down and everyone is ready for a shared toast at the bar.

Gentle Table Manners

Our clay-style cards and chips are designed to be tactile and satisfying without ever feeling showy. Please handle them with care, avoiding noisy stacking, tapping, snapping or flicking that might distract nearby tables.

If you accidentally bend, mark or spill on a card, quietly let a host or staff member know so we can replace it without fuss. We’d rather refresh a deck than have anyone feel awkward about ordinary table mishaps.

Offline Only, Always

Poker at The Copper Chance is entirely in-person. There is no online play, no remote participation, no betting and no financial component to any of our games. Our tables are about conversation, shared rituals and the comfort of being fully present.

Recording gameplay, live streaming or discussing online hands in detail at the table is discouraged. We’d rather the focus stay on the people in front of you, the seasonal dishes on the table and the easy rhythm of clay cards and chips being moved simply for the joy of it.

If you’d like more detail on how our offline entertainment works alongside dining, our team is happy to walk you through the format when you arrive.

Celebration Etiquette

Whether it’s a birthday, team event or casual meet-up, sharing your plans early helps us craft a night that feels considered rather than crowded. When you book, let us know if you’re bringing a cake, marking a milestone or planning a surprise.

We’ll work with you on timing, service and any quiet touches that keep the energy uplifting without overwhelming neighbouring tables. Singing, toasts and speeches are warmly welcomed when handled with the same good spirits and consideration as our games.

Leaving the Table

If you need to step away—whether for fresh air, a quick call outside the lounge or a chat at the bar—simply let your dealer or host know so we can pause the hand or adjust seating as needed.

Please move thoughtfully around other tables, keeping bags, jackets and personal items clear of walkways and play surfaces. When you’re ready to call it a night, a brief farewell to your tablemates and host rounds off the session with the same ease and courtesy that started it.
